Café 22 to Open First Week of February Following Interior Renovation

NANTUCKET, MA — After a month of renovations, Café 22 at 22 Federal Street will open to the public the first week of February, Remain announced today. The café will be open Thursday through Tuesday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Café 22 will open under the stewardship of restaurateur Jonas Baker. Joining Baker is Michael Ferreri of ACK Roasters, alongside a team that includes many familiar faces returning to the café, including Daisy Carnelia as culinary director. While continuing to serve breakfast and lunch favorites, the café will now also feature daily, fresh homemade donuts, welcoming a former staple back to Nantucket’s downtown food scene.

“This coffee shop has always been a place people rely on, and I can’t wait to have the team back doing what they love: welcoming faces and creating great food and energy the community can count on year-round,” Baker said.

The space has undergone a complete interior refresh that is intended to reflect Nantucket’s natural beauty, including artwork by local photographer Lauren Marttila. The reopening marks a new chapter for the café at the Nantucket Culinary Center, which will celebrate its 10-year anniversary this year. Remain’s long-term vision for the building is to provide a special place for Nantucket residents and visitors to relax and enjoy good food in the heart of downtown.

“We see the building as an important third space for the island community,” Remain’s executive director Cecil Barron Jensen said. “We hope our friends and neighbors love the renovations in the café, and we are deeply thankful for the many community partners who stepped in to help bring Café 22 to life. We are especially grateful for Jonas’ leadership and his alignment with Remain’s vision for a year-round gathering place. We’re looking forward to seeing the community back in the building this winter.”

Baker has plans to expand the use of the first floor at 22 Federal Street. In the meantime, guests are encouraged to enjoy the space as additional seating for the ground floor café and as a welcoming environment for gathering, working, and connection. The long-term goal is to make both the first and second floors available to local charities and nonprofits, providing flexible space for activities and events that support and grow their programs.

Additional programming and updates for the full building at 22 Federal Street will come as development continues into the spring.
