Since its launch, Remain has supported Nantucket nonprofits to bring vitality to the island community and to encourage sustainable practices. In the early days of Remain, each grant recipient was asked to provide a plan for how to become a more sustainable organization—using fewer plastics, encouraging multimodal transportation and making greener choices for energy consumption. Remain’s focus of support to nonprofits expanded in 2019 to provide professional development opportunities for its leaders. The Community Foundation for Nantucket has administered grants from the Remain Nantucket Fund since 2016.
“We believed that if we could help train the executive directors and fundraisers, we would see stronger organizations across the board,” said Cecil Barron Jensen, executive director of Remain. “The Community Foundation for Nantucket has administered grants from the Remain Nantucket Fund since 2016. They offer professionalism and expertise in grant management and we are proud of the work they have done our our behalf.”
The Community Foundation for Nantucket offers nonprofits the opportunity to apply for grants from the Remain Nantucket Fund once a year. All applications must meet one of the following criteria:
Enhance Nantucket’s Cultural Vitality—Program Grants
Encourage Better Leaders and Organizations—Professional Development Grants
Support Environmental Sustainability—Project Grants
All interested nonprofits must file an application with the Community Foundation for Nantucket. Grants will be awarded to only organizations that have met all deadlines for project reporting, and accountability for any previous grants.
The Community Foundation for Nantucket’s mission is to strengthen Nantucket now and for future generations through thoughtful philanthropy and community leadership. In addition to administering the Remain Nantucket Fund, CFN offers other grant opportunities, scholarships, donor advised funds and tools that support the island community.
For the last eight years, nonprofits island-wide have benefitted from the Remain Nantucket Fund. Granting has boosted programming, professional and strategic development and environmental projects. Community Foundation for Nantucket’s administration of the grants is an asset to the betterment of the community.
“When we were asked by Remain Nantucket to manage their grantmaking in 2016, we were honored to accept. Since then, the fund has supported Nantucket nonprofits with grants in excess of $3.5 million in pursuit of their mission and in aid of their goals to boost vitality, support nonprofit leaders and imagine a greener future for Nantucket. ”
