22 Federal Street – The Corner Table and Nantucket Culinary Center Ventures

Remain Ventures completed a major renovation of the historic building on the corner of Federal and Broad Streets in 2016. The Corner Table and Nantucket Culinary Center have been a beloved home-away-from-home for residents and visitors ever since.

The Vision

To provide a favorite spot for Nantucket residents and visitors to relax and enjoy good food in the heart of downtown.

The Mission

To be open year-round delivering fresh meals throughout the day at The Corner Table. The Nantucket Culinary Center provides opportunities to learn about local and global cuisines and to celebrate special occasions.

The Project

was made possible through Remain Ventures.

More Than A Table

A Cafe and a Classroom

Remain completed a major renovation of the historic building on the corner of Federal and Broad Streets and opened The Corner Table and the Nantucket Culinary Center in 2016

In 2014, Remain embarked on a major renovation of the historic building. As it was transformed into an active culinary center, it was certified LEED Gold for its indoor environmental quality and energy efficient mechanical systems and appliances. It features a lower-level cafe, a spacious courtyard patio—which received a solar installation in 2022—and a large and well-equipped space for additional cafe seating, private events and cooking classes on the upper floors.

Taylor Oliver and Andrea Solimeo, in partnership with Chris Sleeper and Mayumi Hattori of Pip & Anchor, opened The Corner Table in April 2023 following in the footsteps of the thoughtful stewardship and community spirit of previous tenants, Joy and Greg Margolis. The cafe provides a year-round gathering place for residents and visitors to meet and grab good food and coffee to eat in or take out. Upstairs at The Culinary Center there are cooking classes and demonstrations and facilities for private dining and events. It’s an open, relaxed, flexible space that can function as a demonstration kitchen or as additional space for cafe seating. Video cameras and screens facilitate the demonstrations. The cooktop in the demonstration kitchen can be covered and the room used for other meetings, classes and pop-up market and special events.

The second floor contains an interactive kitchen with three workstations (two hot and one cold), and a private dining room that participants can use to enjoy the meal they have helped prepare. Modeled after the Action Kitchen at the Seaport Hotel in Boston and similar venues elsewhere, the space can be used for traditional cooking classes and for groups who want to have collaborative cooking experiences or competitive cook-offs. The dining room, which seats up to 16 people, can be independently rented for private dinners and can double as a general purpose classroom and meeting space.

Remain Ventures’ vision for the cafe and cooking school is to drive vitality to downtown Nantucket, encourage people to cook with healthy and local foods and be a model for sustainable practices in the food industry throughout the year. The new owners and operators of The Corner Table and Nantucket Culinary Center provide a family-like atmosphere where everyone is welcome.
