Nantucket Housing 101: Remain Brings Island Housing Leaders Together to Help Residents Navigate Local Resources

Free public conversation Oct. 5 in the Great Hall at the Nantucket Atheneum will bring island housing leaders together to explain the programs available to year-round residents and property owners.

NANTUCKET, MA — Remain will host a free public panel discussion bringing together leaders from several of the island’s housing organizations to help residents understand the programs, services and opportunities available to them. Nantucket Housing 101 will be held on Monday, Oct. 5, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Great Hall at the Nantucket Atheneum, 1 India St.

Nantucket’s growing network of organizations, programs and funding sources working to preserve and expand year-round housing can be challenging for residents, homeowners and landlords to understand and navigate. Nantucket Housing 101 brings the people behind the resources together in one room to offer their perspective and to answer questions about different housing scenarios.

Rather than focusing on the scale of the island’s housing challenge, the conversation will center on what resources are available to residents, homeowners and landlords.

Samantha Pillion, a Nantucket native and independent consultant who has spent the past year researching the island’s housing landscape on behalf of Remain, will moderate the discussion and open with an overview of her findings.

Panelists will include:

  • Anne Kuszpa, executive director of Housing Nantucket
  • Dave Armanetti, director of real estate development at Housing Nantucket
  • Beth Ann Meehan, a loan officer at Cape Cod 5, president of the Nantucket Housing Authority and a board member of Habitat for Humanity Nantucket
  • Tucker Holland, executive director of the Nantucket Land Trust
  • Kristie Ferrantella, housing director for the Town of Nantucket.

Using real-world scenarios — from a year-round resident searching for an affordable rental to a homeowner considering an accessory dwelling unit — panelists will explore how programs from different organizations can work together to help keep and create homes for the year-round community.

“We have really well qualified housing leaders who are accessing a variety of creative tools to support our challenging housing landscape,” said Cecil Barron Jensen, executive director of Remain. “We hope our community friends come to learn more about the options that are available.”

The discussion will conclude with an audience question-and-answer session.
