In 2014, Remain embarked on a major renovation of the historic building at 22 Federal Street. The certified LEED Gold building is recognized for its indoor environmental quality and energy efficient mechanical systems and appliances. The three-story building features a lower-level café, a spacious courtyard patio, a large and well-equipped space for additional café seating on the first floor and an open kitchen for cooking classes and private events on the upper floors.
Jonas Baker, in partnership with Michael Ferreri of ACK Roasters, opened Café 22 during the winter of 2026. He follows in the the footsteps of the thoughtful stewardship and community spirit of the original tenants, Joy and Greg Margolis and Un Altro, the most recent owners of the café and cooking school. The café provides a year-round gathering place for residents and visitors to grab good food and coffee to eat in or take out. Upstairs is a spacious room for café overflow seating, where visitors can relax, catch-up and enjoy each other’s company. The Culinary Center on the top floor features a popular cooking classroom and a comfortable dining room. It is also a popular spot for special occasions, including a private classes and events.
Remain Ventures’ vision for the cafe and cooking school is to drive vitality to downtown Nantucket, encourage people to cook with healthy and local foods and be a model for sustainable practices in the food industry throughout the year. The new owner and operator of Café 22 and the Nantucket Culinary Center provide a family-like atmosphere where everyone is welcome.
